[Photonicat 2] Capacity to disable fast-charging

Hello,

In my case, most of the time I don't really need fast charging, as the modem charges overnight.
Fast charging significantly increases temperature and fan noise, and decreases battery life in the long term.
Would it be possible to add an ON/OFF switch in the Photonicat Web UI to disable this feature with persistence across reboots ?

Thank you for your support.

Hello,
Due to the current limitations of the MCU side, we are not able to implement this feature at the moment or add a fast charging ON/OFF switch in the Web UI.
We will record your suggestion and evaluate the possibility of supporting this feature in future hardware or firmware updates.
Thank you for your understanding and support!

Hi!

After days of testing, I found that the powersave option disables the small cores of the CPU, but the impact on battery life is really unnoticeable.

I would suggest just removing this option, as it will only impact battery life in edge cases (like heavy load usage, and I don't know who would do that).

Hello @rebelliouswhiz,

Maybe this is the wrong topic? https://photonicat.com/forums/feature-requests/persist-powersave-across-reboot

Instead of removing the powersave feature, maybe we could build better power management around it?
For example:

  • Use the powersave CPU governor
  • Disable big cores instead of E/little cores
  • Reduce max CPU frequency by 40–50%

Also maybe on a second button, reduce Wi-Fi power.(impact on range)
In my case, most of the time I use my Photonicat like a regular modem, so I don't need full capacity all the time.

Yeah, was reviewing mutiple threads, replied to the wrong one…

But yeah, I agree with you; the current power-save button is somewhat meaningless. What we really need is perhaps the ability to adjust the power but with minimal impact on 4G/5G cellular and Wi-Fi speed. Right now I find the power drains quite fast. I am trying methods to extend the battery life as much as possible.

Hi @emanon_eno, you got the chance to test the latest release yet?

I get like ~10% battery for at least 1 hour of 5G network hotspot use, quite good. I want to know if that's just me or it's really that good..
